My name is Carla I am 48 and have two children 22 & 25. I have been in the fitness industry for 20 years. In 2004 I went to Uni and did a degree in Sports Therapy. Graduated in 2007 and worked 6 days a week to build my business. The following year I got divorced.

In 2009 I started to become unwell. I had been previously very active, in 2009 I started to feel exhausted, picking up stomach bugs regularly & I became exercise intolerant. I was told by my GP it was in my head so I kept pushing on until one day I collapsed! over the next 18 months I ended up having gall bladder surgery (a mistake) then a hysterectomy (definitely the right decision as had started early menopause aged 30). Post surgeries I was hoping to feel better and recover, my hormones were better as was my up & down mood but energy levels were still very low.

Things did not improve! I spent thousands of pounds trying to get a diagnosis so that I could get treatment and recover. I finally found a South African doctor locally that diagnosed chronic fatigue Syndrome. After blood tests, he called to say “I don’t know how you get out of bed as your Mitochondria and not working properly and at best you may get forty percent recovery. I never accepted this!

November 2014 a colleague suggested I do a course with a man he described as a “mind Jedi warrior”.  I attended Level 1 with Douglas Heel, the 2-day course changed my life personally and professionally and I have never looked back since. My colleague activated my diaphragm on day 1 and I began to breathe into my belly probably for the first time in 30 years. The course ran Monday and Tuesday, Wednesday morning I was back in clinic and activated everyone’s diaphragm and taught them correct breathing. For 3 months I activated my diaphragm and committed 10 mins belly breathing a day.

After 3 months I visited my doctor to have my bloods done. Three days later my doctor called me to say whatever you have been doing don’t stop as your blood results are looking much better. I was starting heal and recover my body was getting what it needed, oxygen. I felt for the first time in 4 years that I was getting well. I had experienced panic attacks and anxiety most of my life but for the 3 months that I had been practicing belly breathing the panic attacks had stopped. I found a tool to heal my physical symptoms and help with my mental health too.

I have spent the last six years working on myself taking away my layers most of which have been emotional. Today I do three one hour interval training sessions, I was told I would never be able to work anaerobically again! I walk, do yoga and weights, yes I have to be mindful about my energy both physically and mentally.

When we give our body what it needs amazing things happen. Be Activated has given the tools to unlock my imploded mind and body.  I have attended seven training courses with Douglas and have learnt, grown, laughed, cried and met some really amazing people. Most importantly I have recovered, learnt my story and am still learning about me a journey that will continue. The more I work on me the better wife, mum, friend and the more I’m can help people in my clinic.
