Yoga student Elaine wanted to work on crow pose/jump back transition. It’s a complex transition, requiring  strength, power, balance, agility, flexibility, timing and good breath control; narrative is also a huge factor.

Elaine has had a very tough year personally, on top of the Pandemic her marriage has ended, her job security gone, and she’s mum to 5 children all under the age of 13 years old. Her entire life is in transition.

The crow/jump back is a challenge for her and so we use it to open a dialogue with her brain / body connection. During the assessment Elaine presents a 333 bilateral jaw. Before I activate her I ask her to show me her yoga practice. I make a point of not correcting her alignment or offering her adjustments because I want to see how much the activations naturally change this. She tells me that she’s never felt graceful.

I notice that as we activate and she as she starts to figure things out – from the table to the mat – she begins to move differently. She notes that when she feels strong she also feels light.  I suggest to her that grace in movement happens when the body mind, and spirit work together.

I don’t really mind one way or another if she can jump back, but I do care deeply that as she learns why her body has been compensating and what triggers it, she has better information and can connect on a much deeper level. This is what will help her to change her patterns both physically and intellectually, and this is what will empower her.

Elaine is now a regular participant in my Activated yoga classes and she’s been inspired to the point that she’s  interested in training to become a BeActivated facilitator herself one day.
